SURFACE STYLE
It doesn’t really matter what it is (people, outfits, clothing, rooms), it’s the little details that can really make or break it for me. Perhaps that’s why I’m so attracted to well designed surfaces. When it comes to home decor, I love seeing things stacked on top of other things. Small details and objects pushed into corners.. I love spaces that take a while to take in and capture your attention every where you look. I suppose that explains my extensive trinket collection.
One of my new favorite interior design-focused blogs is Life with a Dash of Whimsy. Katie is seriously the master of all things detail. Her home borders on a little too feminine for me, but the way she focuses on using detail to create the feeling of the space means that the atmosphere is easy to adjust depending on the types of details brought into the room. Something as simple as switching crome accessories for brushed silver or bronze can totally alter the vibe. Every time I visit her blog, I wish desperately that I could finally have a place that I could really make my own.
The first image below is from Katie’s home, featured in The Everygirl. The rest of the photos are other ‘surfaces’ that I love. In every one, it’s the attention to detail, the carefully careless arrangements, and mixed textures that caught my eye. This is the kind of post that leaves me craving a welcoming, creative and inspiring atmosphere. Also, a dog. The Apartment 34 image makes me imagine curling up in bed with a hot cup of coffee and a snuggly chocolate lab on a rainy Sunday morning. Simply put, these spaces remind me of a place I could call home.
What makes a space feel like home to you?
