FORMULAIC FASHION: THE SHACKET
Happy Monday! Let’s talk outfit formulas – specifically, formulas featuring one of my favorite outfit elements: the shacket. I just love the casual feel of shirt-jackets. I’m still a fan of layering a button up over a tank, but it’s never enough when it gets chilly. Being back in Colorado, I feel like we never fully get hot days, since the wind and rain tend to kick up in the summer. So, I love that a style like this doesn’t feel as heavy as a coat, but still provides a little warmth.

THE SHACKET FORMULA
Any neutral outfit in need of an outer layer. JK. Kind of.
Really, I love a good shacket to give my look some style when I’m just totally fried for ideas. This look consists of a white t-shirt, leggings, and white sneakers. Cute, sure, but so so simple. The shacket adds color and dimension to an otherwise boring look. I also love to layer them over solid dresses. I wore this same shacket over a floaty high-neck camisole dress, with these same sneakers, and it was a smash hit. Such an easy way to add a little flare as you dash out the door.
When it comes to accessories, I keep it simple. This is a more casual style, so I fit to the look by layering minimal jewelry and simple shoes like ankle boots or sneakers.
WHAT I LOOK FOR
When I’m shacket shopping, I look for styles that are a bit oversized. I’ve noticed many styles feel a little itchy on my skin, unless they have a special lining. So an oversized style helps by giving room for a long-sleeved shirt underneath. Plus, being oversized is just super trendy. It comes across as an off-duty, relaxed look, that is still somehow put together because of those buttons.
Typically, I opt for a plaid. I have a few different color combos in the pattern. While you can find solid styles, I feel like they give off more of a “coat” vibe than a “shirt-jacket” vibe. Though you can do whatever you want, I think the plaid ends up looking a little more casual while solid styles naturally dress up a little.
Plus, the pattern makes it easy for it be a look-finisher, meaning you can fly out the door with the most simple outfit and throw it on top and instantly have more pizzaz.
