BLUEPRINT BEAUTY: CREAM MAKEUP
Happy Monday, ladies! I… was up all night doing my homework. So today’s post is late. Also, I decided not to put up the post on Wednesday because of the issues at the Capitol last week. With today’s post, I still don’t think the conversation is done and I think we have a lot to do as a country, starting with accountability. But I also know that focusing entirely on one bad thing will wear us all out to the point of not being helpful anymore. SOO for today’s post – we’re talking about makeup, specifically, cream makeup bc I am obsessed. P.S. If you like this post, check out the Blueprint Beauty category for more!

WHEN TO WEAR CREAM PRODUCTS
Way back when, when I first started learning about makeup, there were a couple cream products I used to use. However, once I started learning more I sort of just switched to powders. I’m not sure why, but then I started to build up a bit of a fear of creams. I figured I was oily so I should avoid them – well, it turns out I’m not oily. And even if you are, you can still wear creams.
Truthfully, you can wear cream products whenever you damn well please. But I’ll tell you about the two times when I prefer wearing creams the most. First, is during the summer when it’s hot and I want my makeup to really melt and blend and create a sultry, almost sweaty, but in a good way, look. On these occasions, I will set my whole face and eyes with the thinnest layer of translucent powder just to keep the heat from actually moving the product.
The second time I like cream products is during the winter when my skin is so dry that powder instantly looks icky. Actually, in the winter when I’m applying powders, I usually go for a pretty thick moisturizing base as my skin has shifted to normal-to-dry. When I go for creams in the winter, I won’t go quite as moisturizing on the base. And, I might just add a little translucent powder just where I need it (T-zone and eye-crease) to add longevity.
APPLICATION TIPS & TRICKS
First rule of cream products: don’t apply cream over powder.
But also makeup rules are meant to be broken and some products can handle it, but if you’re not willing to deal with potential issues, just don’t do it. If you have to apply a cream over a powder, make sure that the amount of powder applied is very little. One other trick that may help is to set your face with a setting spray and use an almost-dry sponge to press in that setting spray and meld the powder into your skin.
Find the right brush!
The right brush is important for all products, but especially important for creams. You want to still to a synthetic fiber when possible to help prevent all the product from being sucked up into the brush fiber (which is what happens when you use a natural fiber brush). Personally, I prefer to use my least dense brushes when applying all cream products since it’s suuuuper easy to go overboard.
Don’t underestimate the power of fingers!
When it doubt, use your fingers to blend it out. Just make sure they’re clean first. Really, your fingers are nice and warm and help melt the product so when a cream is a little stiff, use light pressure to warm it and gently move it either with your finger or go back to the brush to be even more gentle on your skin.
MY FAVORITE CREAM PRODUCTS
Soo the cream product that really converted me to creams was discontinued, but there is a newer version of it. I’ve heard mixed reviews on it, so it’s on my list to test out again, but that product is the Chanel bronzer. I’m a little disappointed that though this version is new, there still is 0 shade range. The other cream product I’m obsessed with are the Stila cream shadows, especially the glitter and shimmer formulas. Also – the cream bronzer in the Tarteist Pro to Glow palette is fab. And I can’t link them here, but I’ve loved just about every cream I’ve tried in the Mary Kay line!
