THE 3 BEST BOOKS I READ IN SPRING
Happy Fri-YAY, ladies! It’s officially June 1 – and that means an all new reading season. I have to admit, I did not do well on my Spring Reading List. I got really busy, and I ended up rediscovering my Kindle so I read a few short ebooks and neglected my paper copies. But wouldn’t you know, all of my favorites this season were still books I read on paper. So is it the format that makes the book good? Hmm.. AnyWHO – here are my favorite books of Spring, and stay tuned for next week when I share my Summer Reading List! P.S. You can always follow along on Goodreads!

INTO THE DIM. This was one of the first books I read this season (started in March) and I still remember it. I received it as an unpublished early release on a Goodreads giveaway, but the final version is almost always the same or nearly so. I don’t remember the last true fantasy book I read. But, I mean, it’s not dragons and wizards, but it is time travelers so… And it was actually quite good! It definitely channeled those teen read features with a little romance and a too-young-to-be-that-badass heroine so if you like those, you’ll love this one. And the time traveling theme I feel is a more unique take on a genre overwhelmed with dragons, vampires, etc.

THE WRIGHT BROTHERS. Y’all, airplanes. You know I’m obsessed. This book actually took me quite awhile to get through once it got past the whole inventing the plane part, but I did throughly enjoy it through to the end. I had never gotten to explore the life and experiences of the Wright brothers in that much detail. As far as history-focused books go, it’s one of the best I’ve ever read because the writing style is so fluid and easy to read. It had Ken Burns meets your grandfather’s story telling vibes.

MURDER ON A SUMMER’S DAY. This was a book I picked up when Chris and I had a spontaneous change of plans and I was going to be pretty bored away from home for awhile. There was a Barnes & Noble nearby so we dropped in so I could quickly find a book. After wandering through my normal haunts I just couldn’t find anything that interested me. I was having a rough day so I thought about what I would be doing otherwise, and it would have been watching some corny mystery show and taking a nap. So I headed to the mystery section to find a book that gave me that feeling. As soon as I saw the cover, I grabbed this. It reminded me of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries – my favorite bedtime show.
I didn’t realize it was part of a larger series, but it’s like the Nancy Drew books. You don’t miss really anything by reading out of order, so I kept digging into it. It is a bit of a slower book (compare to a TV show: Midsomer Murders without the gore to Miss Fisher’s). But it was still really enjoyable. I actually think a book like this would be fabulous for a vacation or a long weekend spent hanging out by a pool and relaxing. It was super cute, and not as corny as the Nancy Drew series, and definitely a series I want to dig deeper into!
P.S. How cute is this top? I could have just shown pictures of the books for this post buuuut I liked this outfit too much to delay posting it any longer! Blue and white is probably my favorite color combo ever.
Are you a big reader? What are your favorite books that you’ve read recently?
