CUBICLE TO COCKTAIL: WINTER LAYERS
Happy Monday, ladies! How was your weekend? We’re headed full speed into winter now, and I admit I’m sad to see fall go. But I’m also so excited for next month and all that winter style can bring. In today’s post I’m talking about how to take your winter layers from cubicle to cocktail. With a few simple changes, you can be ready to hit downtown and paint it red without missing a beat.

SWAP OUT THE SHOES
I love opting for something a little more strappy for cocktails. In the late fall and winter, a strappy sandal can be a bit chilly, but it’s nice if the event is indoor with a lot of people. You could also opt for an over the knee boot to create a fun look and juxtaposition between the skirt and shoes. Bottom line – step it up in the footwear department. It can make the biggest difference for making your look look less like it belongs in the office, and more like it belongs downtown.
DITCH THE SWEATER
A conservative office look begins with a conservative top. Your favorite winter sweater looks great – see the last fall formula! – in the office. But it can look very, well, office-y with a pencil skirt. So layer a fun night out camisole under your sweater and then ditch the winter layers as soon as you leave. Side bonus: that camisole will keep you warm in those sexist offices. ;P
TOP WITH YOUR FAVORITE JACKET
Finally, just because you lost the sweater, doesn’t mean you need to freeze. I mentioned in this post how much I’m loving blazers for cocktail looks. The texture of this one really dresses down, but you could also wear something a little more sparkly or maybe your favorite leather jacket. Whatever the case, opt for something a little extra to play with your shoes and take away the conservative feel of the pencil skirt.
Call to action.
