STYLE DRESSES AS TOPS
This is one of my absolute favorite style tricks that I always forget about. But it will literally double your tops collection, because nearly all of your dresses can be worn as a top tucked into a skirt. Some shorter dresses can even be worn with pants or shorts that are a little looser and roomier!
In the outfit in this post, I simply could not find a top to go with this skirt that I liked. I didn’t want to bring it down with black, but nothing else seemed to look good. Until I found this dress stacked in with my summer clothes. It’s just a plain and simple tank dress and it make the perfect blouse!
ADD A BELT
This is one of the style tricks that I never forget. I always test out my dresses with a belt the first time I try them on. It’s such a great way to add a little something extra to a simple shift dress. When I wear the dress I’m wearing in this post as a dress, I almost always toss a braided belt. I love how it adds something so pretty and, when I belt it just above my natural waist line, it makes my legs look longer! I have a bit of a longer torso, so I’m literally obsessed with this trick for adding length to my legs.
FOLLOW A FORMULA
When I’m really at a loss or simply don’t have time, I reach for a formula. Did you know I have a whole series dedicated to formulas? These simple outlines help me pick a few key peices that make a perfectly styled look. The only work I have to do is making sure I chose peices in the same color family. That’s it.
Formulas work the best when you make a list and attach it to the wall in your closet. I use a couple of pretty thumbtacks to attach it to the wall! As a part of my series, I make a printable of the formulas which you can easily access by subscribing to the Chic in Seconds newsletter.
