OVER-THE-KNEE VS. THIGH-HIGH BOOTS
Happy Monday, ladies! Sorry this post is a little late. We took a little staycation to relax, but also get done a lot of behind the scenes work. Unfortunately, some of the things we needed, we weren’t able to get, so this week’s post schedule will be a little weird. So, tonight’s post is a little late, and there won’t be post tomorrow, but after that the schedule will return to normal! Today’s post is all about thigh-high and over-the-knee boots. They’re pretty similar. But when it comes to styling them, the difference can be huge. Certain looks can work with either option, but for others a little more thought is required. Tonight, I’m breaking it down for you and explaining when to wear each one!

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OVER-THE-KNEE AND THIGH HIGH BOOTS
So, technically, I suppose thigh-high boots would be considered over-the-knee, or OTK, boots. However, the OTK I’m talking about are the style that come just up to the top of your kneecap. This distinction is super important because it affects which boots you should style with your look. Heel height isn’t relevant however, you will notice that a taller boot shaft will lengthen your leg up to a certain point. Too high, and your leg will look cut off. That’s when a heel will help. I recommend getting a pair of OTK boots in a neutral color like brown or black as a staple. If you’re a fan of thigh-highs and will wear them often, chose a neutral as well to allow the most amount of wear.
WHEN TO WEAR OTK BOOTS
OTK boots look good with so many looks. Most of the time you can substitute a thigh-high boot for an OTK boot without losing any of the vibe or feel of the taller version. OTK boots look amazing with skirts just a few inches above your thigh. They also look amazing with a variety of pants and leggings. I would avoid wearing any dress or skirt that comes to or below your knee cap with a boot like this. A standard knee-high or top-of-calf boot looks much better with a longer skirt.
But my favorite way to wear OTK is how I wore them in the look in this post. I love the modest length of the dress, just three or four inches of skin is all the look needs to add a flirty flare without sacrificing modesty.
WHEN TO WEAR THIGH-HIGH BOOTS
These are the more complicated boots. With the dress I’m wearing in this post in particular, they would. not. work. Can you guess why? It’s because the hemline of my skirt hit exactly where the top of the boots hit. This created a strange, cut off look. It was just.. weird. It didn’t look right. So the look called for a lower boot that showed a little more skin.
If you’re more adventurous than I am, you can totally rock your thigh high boots with a mini skirt. Make it a little more modest with a dark, but still sheer pair of tights. But thigh-high boots would look great with just about any pair of pants. You’re really only limited by the colors. Leather on leather was weird a few years ago, but it’s super on trend this year, so you could even rock your leather leggings with leather thigh-high boots! I’m more of a suede fan – less overwhelmingly hot – but even suede would look awesome with a leather legging!
To make it even simpler – don’t wear your thigh high boots if your skirt touches them, but wear them WITH ALL THE leggings! You’ll be infinitely trendy and comfortable. What’s your favorite way to wear either thigh-high or OTK boots?
