HOW TO WEAR A SUMMER DRESS IN FALL
I love my summer dresses. Love them I tell you. And I hate seeing them hanging unworn as the weather starts cooling down. So I’ve found a few ways to add a little fall to my summer wardrobe to match the weather and my need for fall textures and colors, and of course, provide a little warmth in the cooling temps.
ONE. Break out the boots (not just the booties)!
I love my booties, but a tall pair of boots really helps transition a summer dress to a fall look. Especially if you opt for boots in richer browns and tans that emulate the changing foliage around you. Of course, you could make any color work. But warm tones scream fall and will help to fall-ify your dress.
TWO. Let your hair down!
There’s something about long, loose waves that screams fall to me. If you have curl resistant hair and your curls fall out, use a 1 inch barrel at high-medium heat, then finger-brush out the curl a second or two after you’ve let it out. If your hair loves to curl, grab a 1 1/2 inch barrel curling iron, on the heat setting that is appropriate for your hair, then finger-brush it out a second or two after you’ve dropped the curl.
THREE. Deepen up your makeup.
Just like your boots, rich, warm toned makeup really adds to the fall-feel. I love opting for a berry colored lip. Cool tones will actually help your teeth appear whiter, so feel free to chose a red with blue undertones. Then choose some rich, warm browns to smoke up the outer corners of your eyelids and along your lower lashes.
FOUR. Top it.
If you’re lucky enough to live in a place where fall feels like fall, break out your favorite topper jacket or trench coat and add it to your look. I’m also loving the look of a long, open front cardigan to top off a summery dress.
