A TASTE OF PORTUGAL: 5 EASY TO MAKE TRADITIONAL DISHES
Bom Dia! Happy Wednesday from Portugal! Last week before we left I scheduled this post so we could spend the most amount of our time on vacation, instead of working. But I didn’t want to leave the blog unattended, so today I’m sharing a special Portuguese treat with you. Chris and his family are huge soccer fans, and I’m always excited to watch Portugal rock it. So the day of the Euro game, we decided to make a huge Portuguese dinner and I cooked some of my favorite dishes. And it must have been fate because when we sat down to eat, Portugal had won. Keep reading to find out what we made and how you can make it, too!
I’ll start by saying I recommend you don’t try to make all of these dishes in one shot, unless you want to spend 3+ hours in the kitchen. If you want to make the same meal, make the Arroz Doce the night before, and the rest the day of. If you have any questions about how to cook these delicious treats, shoot me an email at ashleigh@fashioninflight.com or find me on social media, just to the right of this post!
WHAT WE MADE (& links to recipes!):
- Salada de Polvo (octopus salad)
- Arroz de Marisco (seafood/shellfish rice)
- Bacalhau (cod fish)
- Caldo Verde (a type of stew with linguiça, we made some with cod as well)
- Arroz Doce (rice pudding) (use arborio rice if you can’t find carolino!)
- Oysters on the half shell*
- Cocktail sauce* (we skipped the horseradish in the sauce because I can’t stand the stuff!)
Each of these, except the Arroz Doce, is really an entrée of it’s own, but they do go really well together! Just make sure to wear comfy clothes when you eat it! 😉
We complemented our meal with Vinho Verde and a Port from BevMo. They have a wonderful wine selection, including a few Portuguese wines, although there’s certainly room for more. Did you know Port originally came from a region in Portugal known as Oporto or Porto? Hence the name! I also had a wonderful Portuguese professor from Oporto while I was in school!
**While, I wouldn’t call oysters on the half shell traditional Portuguese food, however, we all love them, and since cooking this much food takes about 3 hours, we decided to snack on some raw oysters while we cooked. We even made our own cocktail sauce while we were at it!
What do you think? Would you eat any of these? I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
