WHAT’S IN MY BAG?
I love these posts. I always love to see what people lug around with them, what other people consider necessary, and how they keep it all organized. I tend to use one bag for the school year, but for extracurriculars I like to change bags regularly. Since I’m constantly swapping, having an organized system makes life easier. I’ve also noticed that switching bags often helps me from carrying around more than is absolutely necessary or leaving any trash at the bottom of my bag.
WALLET: Obviously this goes with me everywhere. I love my Tommy wallet, and it’s clearly well-loved. Inside I keep my cards of all sorts, my pilots license and business cards. I only carry a little bit of cash on me, it’s too easy to spend, but I like to have a couple bucks for an emergency snack if I’m stuck on campus and forget to bring one.
NOTEBOOK: I don’t go anywhere without my Moleskin notebook. I use it to record to do lists, resources, and blog and business ideas. It’s a lifesaver to have around and it keeps me from spending all my time on my phone. Actually, since I started carrying a notebook, my phone use has gone down dramatically. If I didn’t use it for music as well, I’d probably spend less than an hour a day on it.
LOOSE COSMETICS: There’s a few cosmetics I always leave loose in my bag. I grab for them so frequently that keeping them bundled up just gets annoying. I always keep a lipgloss in case I forget a lip color or need a little boost when I’m out. Lotion, especially when the weather is cold, is vital. I love this Sonia Kashuk hand lotion, the Pink Innocencia is delicious. Chapstick is another vital. No matter the weather, my lips are always chapped. It doesn’t help that I’m a nervous lip-biter. When it cools way down, I toss a Carmex into my cosmetic bag, too. It’s that bad.
COSMETIC BAG: There’s a couple things that are always in my cosmetic bag: hairspray, perfume, a mirror and ibuprofen. Being sensitive to sound and going to UCSB/flying airplanes isn’t exactly the greatest mix. I also throw my inhaler into this little case. When I’m running around on campus, I like to keep some kind of wet wipe in here, too. Tens of thousands of people means tens of thousands times that in germs and we all know I’m their favorite target.
EXTRAS: In addition to the basics and cosmetics, I carry around gum, headphones, a pen, and tissues in another little cosmetic case. Keeping things separated in cosmetic cases helps with the prioritizing process. When I need to narrow down what I’m carrying, this little case is usually the first to go. The fact that there is Extra gum in this category is purely coincidental. I LOL’d to myself a little when I realized that.
Well, that’s about it. My essentials. I only photographed the basics, but obviously during school and during cold weather, it gets a little heavier. Still, my pencil case and binder separate themselves easily and I make a habit to clean out both every week. Any papers or things I don’t need, I take out and either file or throw away. With so much on my plate, an organized bag makes a world of difference. Is your purse the picture of organization? Or are you an “I might need this at some point” packer?
