RAINBOW COLORED EYES
For the most part, I keep my make up simple. Neutral eyeshadows and a clean black cat-eye are my go-to. Every now and then, though, I like to step it up. I’m really not the type to pull out a full blue eye, but I’m not opposed to a little blue shadow or liner accenting my typical browns and coals. The biggest problems with colored eye make up is that it easily becomes childish and picking out an outfit that doesn’t clash can be difficult.
Mascara is key for preventing the “thirteen-year-olds first rendezvous with mom’s cosmetic cabinet” look. The blacker the better. The more wow your lashes are, the less focus is put on the vibrant color in the background and the more it becomes an accessory to your eyes. Which is the point. I grab purples most frequently because the complementary color makes my green eyes even greener. But I also like to use other colors to draw out the different tones and colored flecks in my eyes.
I like to wear simple, mostly monochromatic outfits when I wear colored eye makeup. I’ve heard tips about matching, and tips that say chose colors on the opposite end of the spectrum. I think it can be done well both ways, but the look can be a little too fashion-y for an office or professional atmosphere. I like to keep it plain and simple. And a colored eye is never quite just simple, so it becomes my focal and I’ll wear an all black or black and white outfit to match. Consider incorporating a fun b&w pattern if it feels too dud. But the more color you use, the simpler the outfit should be.
I love using colored eyeliner, burgundy is one of my favorites, in the summer when I know I’ll be hanging out by the pool or at the lake in bikini and coverup – there’s not a whole lot there to clash with what’s happening around my eyes. Are you a colored eye makeup fan? How do you like to wear it?
