BLOG SPOTLIGHT: SEA OF SHOES
Sea of Shoes is, I think, the first blog I ever read. It seems like forever ago now, at least 6 years. For certain, it’s the first fashion blog I really got into. I remember seeing Jane mentioned in a Teen Vogue magazine, I looked up her page and was immediately hooked for life. I read every single post all the way back to her first, and kept following for the new ones. I was captivated at once by her image and her personality.
One thing I love about Jane is that she isn’t too serious. She sets out to show off her looks, but she does so artistically and fun. It’s not just about “Look, I wore this with this and accessorized with this.” She treats everything as a piece of art that deserves to be displayed and shown off in a beautiful way. Even if I weren’t such a fashion fiend, I would love looking at her photos because they’re so well done. I picked images that showed off her style, but I encourage you to click through because some of the detail shots are just amazing.
Jane’s style had a huge influence on me in high school. High school is tough because it’s a constant struggle to fit in, but not become another face in the crowd. Fitting in is never something I’ve done very well. Seeing Jane wear what she wanted, however she wanted and enjoy it was inspiring to little me. Knowing that someone else was doing the same thing made it easier for me to embrace myself and what I love, despite the reaction I would get – and I got a lot of reactions. I think it’s inspiring to know that there are other women out there who can inspire you without actually having to be right there next to you. From the beginning, I’ve thought that fashion blogs have been a great means to that end. Sea of Shoes is certainly one of the best for that – she is unapologetically herself, it’s my favorite trait to see in a person.
