HOME: LET ME LIVE HERE
I want to take a step back and talk about another love of mine, interior design. To me, fashion and design go hand in hand. I get giddy when I see home shots with people wearing clothes that match the room. It’s very aesthetically pleasing. I also find a lot of inspiration for outfits in interior design, and vice versa. At home, I’ve done my room in a dressing room context. My clothes are some of my favorite decorations in the space!
I found this home via Desire to Inspire, one of my favorite interior design blogs. It was designed by The Cross Design. The Yaletown home was photographed for the 2012 Christmas issue of Style at Home magazine. I love, love all the white in the space. White is my favorite color to start with in a home. I love that the space is dominated by the white and pastel blues and pinks with random pops of warmer colors, like gold and brown, and brighter colors, like the bright blue pillow a couple photos down.
So much white is possible because of the varying textures: fur, canvas, glass, leather, cotton… the list goes on. A problem with white is that it tends to look very harsh and unwelcoming, this home avoids that by incorporating natural elements through the wood floors and side tables, and by using natural fibers. One of my favorite details are the Christmas lights around the armoire, they’re probably just decorations for the holidays, but they’re so pretty. I have lit flower Christmas lights hanging in my room at school to add a little pretty to my cookie cutter box of a room.
If I were to transform this home into an outfit, I would obviously start with white. Other colors to incorporate would be blue, pink and gold or silver. Beading, fur, and different fabrics would bring in the textures seen in the home. See an example of my interpretation at the end of the post.
What do you think of this home and how I interpreted it?
